Had a common repair of a Kenmore Dryer (door latch). They were receptive to my believing that I knew what the problem was (rather than saying “the guy will figure it out when he get’s there.”) They had the needed part in stock and scheduled a visit (to Basking Ridge) for the next day in a 2 hour daytime window.
Bob didn’t just yank bad part and put in new part. He replaced the parts but he didn’t stop there and spent time figuring out what we could do to make the door more stable and better aligned. Nice guy too.
They have a fee to visit, then its labor and (marked up) materials. All in it was about $110 plus $20 for a part that costs between $5 and $13 depending on where you get it.
If I could have done the replacement myself I would have, but I feel I got more than just a part replacement. I’d use them again.
We have used Western Appliance for nearly 10 years. Totally honest and reliable. You can’t go wrong with this company.
Quick response, expert repair, parts in stock, and no question that we were being dealt with honestly…definitely the right choice in appliance repair!
Bob at Western Appliance is a diagnostic genius. Several times he listened carefully to my description of malfunctioning appliance symptoms, diagnosed the problem, ordered the part for me and even explained how to install it. Mostly on the phone!! Once it was the dryer that wouldn’t start (bad igniter coils), once the washer wouldn’t fill (bad fill valve) and once it overfilled (just schmutz). Another time he got me new refrigerator seals when they ripped. So definitely five stars for reducing my stress level when appliances go bad.
I have not yet needed to call him to my place!
Originally they were located on Western Avenue (hence the name), and in that location they sold appliances too. About 2010 they stopped selling appliances and moved to the industrial campus on Ridgedale Ave.
This is our third experience with Western Appliance in the last 3 months. The two repairs made previously were for a broken igniter in an old GE clothes dryer, and to replace the stove-top igniters on our Jenn-Air gas range.
In every case, Bob did some trouble shooting over the phone, gave me an estimate of what it might cost, and sent Dave, the mechanic (his brother) to the house to fully diagnose the issues and make the repairs.
Dave has always showed up on time and has performed the repairs expeditiously.
I have nothing but good things to say about their operation, and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing appliance repair. The work has always been stellar, and if there’s a way to do things less expensively, they have done so.
Top notch in my book!
I have been a customer of Western Appliance for over 15 years. They are consistent, reliable, and trustworthy! Super big fans of Western Appliance.
Just had an amazingly pleasant experience with this place. I have a very old washer that came with my apartment, but it’s “as-is” – if it breaks, I fix or replace it.
After doing some troubleshooting myself, I called Western Appliance to see what the base service call costs, and to see if I might get some ballpark figure on what it might cost. I got an extremely knowledgable gentleman on the phone. When I told him the symptoms (very noisy spin for months, followed by total failure to agitate) he narrowed it down to three parts and noted that on this particular GE model each part is at least $150. On top of that there would be labor. His parts pricing checked out with all the common online parts stores, his diagnosis matched most of what I’d read online.
Most importantly though, he was able to look up the serial number and tell me that this is a 15 year old unit and it’s simply not worth it. He could have easily sent a guy out, charged me $65 for a diagnosis and had money in his pocket, but instead he took the time out of his day to help someone that was not going to be a customer. That’s rare in the service business these days. That’s why the 5 stars even though my service was “free”.
Bob was so helpful! I’ve been able to pickup parts here on the same day needed for my washer or dryer. This time he helped me test through a few parts on my dryer until we determined the piece that needed to be replaced. All working now w/ just a couple new inexpensive parts!! Thanks Bob!! You guys rock
Very Professional. Our GE Profile Range needed repair. Not being familiar with this early GE model, they went on-line to review possible solutions to the problem and availability of parts. They called me back to indicate that they would not be able to repair the Range due to part availability. The fact that they called back when there was no immediate benefit to them is very impressive. Very transparent, honest, straight-forward, no-nonsense organization. I’d definitely would use them if I had another appliance issue.
Replaced broken valve in washer. Bob was able to trouble shoot the problem with me over the phone and identify the potential cause. He ordered the part and had it installed within two days.
We were very happy with their service. They were on time, inexpensive, and very knowledgeable.
Repaired washing machine and dryer. Did a great job! Talked to me at length when I booked appointment to see if I could fix it myself and to make sure they had an idea of what the problem was so they could bring right supplies. This is second time I have used them. First time was for my oven. I will not use anyone else!!! They are wonderful!
Reapairman was prompt, professional and repaired washing machine in a short period of time.
Unlike our appalling experience with Sears with whom we have had a service contract – now cancelled, the phone at Western Appliance was answered promply by a pleasant and knowledgeable lady who set up the appointment. Bob called several days before to review the problem to ensure he had the likely replacement parts on hand during the call and also warned that depending on his findings on inspecting the appliance the repair might not be worth it. He arrived promptly within the arranged window. Did a thorough job and recommended replacement. More than that he helped by recommending and calling an appliance store (another small customer-friendly business) with the desired replacement in stock at a competitive price – installed 3 days later. It is refreshing to deal with a real professional, thoroughly knowledgeable on the equipment, honest and customer oriented. I will absolutely use Western Appliance for future appliance service.
My first contact with Western Appliance was with Louise. After asking a couple of questions, Louise was able to diagnose the problem and
told me that most likely the ignitor in the oven needed to be replaced. She gave an approximate price over the phone. Louise suggested that a less expensive part could work and she would look into it. She was extremely professional on the phone. The day of the appointment I called Louise to find out an approximate time when the technician would stop by the house so that I would be home then. She told that he was on a call and she would try to reach out to him via text. Once she heard back from him she confirmed that he was on his way to our house. Bob was here on time and was very courteous and professional. He replaced the part in no time and was in and out in few minutes. It was one of my best experience with a home repair company. I will call them for my next appliance repair and will recommend them to friends and family.
Dave came on time. Diagnosed the problem of the leak in the refrigerator fixed it in 10 minutes. Also ordered wire for light switch. Fixed it in five minutes. Neat, clean, reliable, personable. I would definitely use this company again.
I discovered my dryer was broken the night before and I called up this company the next morning. Someone came out to my house later in the day. Louise was very patient and courteous. She asked me for the model number of the dryer and instructed me on how to find it. Before sending out the repairman, she wanted to make sure she had the parts in stock as to not waste my time.
When the repairman came out, he was on time and very friendly. He took my dryer apart and explained to me in my own caveman language what was wrong with the dryer and what he could do and how much it would cost for the parts. He also explained to me that my dryer was not running efficiently because I had lint piled up inside the machine and the air hose leading out to the air vent was too long and it was bending in a 90 degree angle .
When the work was done, he explained to me how fabric sheets can screwed up the filter system and he showed me how to clean out the detachable filter. He also shortened the air hose. I don’t think he charged me for that or for the new vent flap.
In the end, I think I got more than what I paid for.
