Why Won't My Washer Agitate?
By Western Appliance, Inc. on 2015-12-04
You load up the dirty clothes into you washer, turn the dial, and get the load started. But when you walk by the laundry room a little while later, you don't hear the familiar sounds of the appliance agitating. Before you panic over a washing machine that's not agitating, check these easy fixes first!
- Make sure the appliance is getting power. Has the plug come loose from the outlet? Has the GFCI been tripped? Has the breaker in the breaker box been flipped?
- Make sure your machine is supposed to be agitating. Did you accidentally set it to run a soak cycle? Is it just pausing a moment before starting up it's agitation step?
- Make sure the lid is shut. All washing machines have a safety switch that keeps them from operating with the lid open.
If none of the above is the issue, the problem could stem from a malfunction with the belt, pulley, motor, transmission, or other part.
